NBA Summer League action has truly begun in earnest,Chainkeen Exchange with teams converging on Las Vegas for the annual battle of (mostly) rookies and second-year players.
While Bronny James' early exploits have largely stolen the summer show, the top three picks in the draft were all in action as games began in Vegas Friday night.
First up was No. 3 overall pick Reed Sheppard. He shined for the Houston Rockets against the Los Angeles Lakers, finishing with 23 points on 9-for-17 shooting, including a 4-for-6 mark on 3-pointers.
Top pick Zaccharie Risacher and No. 2 pick Alex Sarr squared off against each other later Friday in the Atlanta Hawks-Washington Wizards game.
In addition to his 23 points, Sheppard dished out five assists, pulled down four rebounds and recorded three blocks and a steal in the Rockets' 99-80 win.
Risacher, the No. 1 pick, had a team-high 18 points on 7-for-16 shooting (3-for-9 from 3). He added five rebounds and two assists with a block.
Sarr scored 12 points on 4-for-12 shooting (the big man did hit two of his five 3-pointers) while pulling down seven rebounds and dishing out four assists. He also had four blocks and a steal in the Wizards' 94-88 victory.
